Romanticize Your Perfect Cozy Winter

If you have not read the Hygge book yet, then I highly recommend that you do. This blog post is inspired by that book. I try to pratice Hygge in my everyday life but I can’t help but feel like its most important in Winter. A lot of people get the Winter blues but Winter is all about slowing down and enjoying the simple things. I hope this blog post inspires you to romanticize Winter.

Lighting

Don’t use any over head lighting if you can help it. Create a warm hug with your lighting. Your Christmas tree is a good example of this. Candles, real or fake flame are great for this. I enjoy mixing both into my home. You can also use different types of fairy lights or even change the temperature of your smart light bulbs. I also love using Christmas lights indoors to create a vibe. If you have a fireplace, light a fire. The glow from the fireplace is perfect! No matter what you use, just keep it warm and cozy.

Slow hobbies

Slow hobbies will help you fill your extra free time spent indoors. Creating crafts from tree clippings or making them into center pieces, is one of my favorite things to do this time of the year. You can knit or just create a yarn craft. I made the yarn garland pictured to the right. Some other great slow hobbies are reading, journaling and painting.

I think something that is very important this time of the year is to remember to not feel guilty for slowing down or taking time to yourself. We get pushed around a lot this time of the year from co workers, friends and even family. If you don’t want to go to the holiday party, work event or friends gathering, then don’t. You do not owe anyone an explanation on how you want to spend your time. It’s ok to say no. Create a head space for yourself. Your wants. Your needs, everyones is different. Commit to doing nothing if that’s what you want to do.

Romanticize your life

Make every moment in your life a big deal. You are the main character of your story. Make even the most ordinary day feel extraordinary. Wear the overly expensive cozy pjs. Add the whip cream and holiday sprinkles to your coffee. Create a new extra cozy morning and night routine. Buy yourself the flowers. Wear the dress to your own living room dance party. Do whatever makes you smile at the end of the day.

Create the winter bedroom of your dreams

Switching out something as simple as your bedding seasonally can create such a difference. I recently upgraded our bedding and I cannot tell you how much of a difference it has made with my mood. I have always wanted a hotel style bed but with extra cozy. I added a neutral duvet and cozy textured white blanket on top, some evergreen tree pillows are more. I left our sheets the same but I know a lot of people like to use flannel sheets this time of the year.

Switch up your bedding, pillows, art, candles, slippers, robes and decor seasonally.
